The Abraxas Academy was concieved from years of nurturing and mentoring individuals who want to learn to carve stone.
We pride ourselves in our ability to deliver a wide range of carving courses, each one carefully planned and executed with the aim of encouraging all abilities.
If being outdoors, meeting new people and eating restaurant quality vegitarian food, relaxing in gorgous glamping pods (and learning to carve stone) sounds like fun. This is the course for you. Booking for summer 2022 is open.

Weekend Stone & Letter Carving Course. Tutors Nina Bilbey and Charlotte Howarth
have created this flexible course for people
to produce a small carving either for the garden
or the home. You can book for one or two days,
and we will give practical advice as to what is possible
over that time, dependant on your experience.
The cost is £130 per day or £250 for two days.
to include set pieces of stone for carving & letter carving,
expert tuition and all tools provided
Our workshop will be set in the fabulous stone barn
at Creake Abbey, with a fabulous onsite cafe and
selection of shops on location.
Either build on existing skills or start from the
beginning, this course is suitable for absolute beginners and experienced
carvers alike. Using a range of historic plaster casts from the tutors personal
library, you will learn to transfer information not only using traditional
tools such as mallets and chisels, but also how choose and identify natural
stone for different jobs.
This guided course is structured to develop skill and nurture confidence for
your next carving adventure.
Whether you a complete beginner or would like to hone
your skills, this course will be adaptable to whatever your level of skill. You
will learn about lettering design, layout, drawing your work directly onto the
stone and methods of carving with chisels. There will be plenty of opportunity
for individual tuition and expert guidance. Stone, tools and materials are
provided, though students are welcome to bring their own stone and project.
Set in an area of rewilding within the West Acre estate, Bradmoor Woods is in the heart of rural Norfolk. The price of the workshop includes all meals (vegetarian) and one camping pitch. If Camping is not your thing, you can choose to upgrade to one of the super comfortable glamping structures with all bedding supplied. There are also a small number of spaces available to bring a (non carving) friend for a small extra fee. They can share the glamping experience and explore the area around or just relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
Our Cancellation Policies
If we cancel a workshop for any reason will let you know as soon as we are able and all course fees will be refunded.
All workshops are run subject to demand.
We are unable to refund any additional costs incurred, such as travel or accommodatiion.
If you have to cancel your booking with more than 6 weeks notice, we will refund the fee minus the deposit paid.
If you have to cancel your booking with less than 6 weeks notice before the start of the workshop, or if you do not attend for any reason, we are unlikely to be in a position to offer a refund.
